Once your combat rating goes up, you will begin to see Bounty Hunting jobs offered and you can mostly abandon other jobs, with the possible exception of some of the large passenger transport missions, which can pay more than a million credits. More than a handful of crew deaths during a boarding significantly lowers how much money you'll make on the ship because of the death benefits. The more crew and guns you have, the better your chances of capturing a ship without many deaths. Anyway, as you start to get some firepower and a decent ship (or multiple ships, if you can), buy some guns and hire extra crew (it is really not fun to lose some necessary crew during a boarding and then your ship won't fly correctly). I like to get the Mule as soon as possible and then upgrade to the Bactarin. Try to pay extra on your mortgage as you can (but don't use all your money) and whenever you can borrow enough to buy a bigger ship, do so (even if you have to sell your current one). As I traveled back and forth, I bought and sold trade goods at the best prices I could find (go to trading board, hit M, click on destination and find item with the largest positive number, buy all that you can hold, sell at mission destination). I've played through a couple of times now, and the method I used was this: I bought the cargo ship first and then did the highest paying jobs I could find. ![]() It is most lucrative to capture the ships and sell them, but it takes a bit more preparation. As others have said, you want to disable them and take their cargo. The fastest way is definitely attacking pirates.
